The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the number of children receiving routine immunizations dropped immediately after the United States declared a national emergency due to the coronavirus. This trend continued throughout 2020 as parents understandably felt more comfortable staying at home during the pandemic.
At New Beginnings Pediatrics, we understand that COVID-19 has disrupted many aspects of our patients’ lives such as education, socialization, sports activities as well as maintaining wellness visits with the pediatrician. While the pandemic put a pause on our day-to-day lives, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that many children have missed important routine vaccinations that are required to enter school and stay healthy. We would like to take an opportunity to encourage parents to call our office at (540) 739-3623 to find out if your child has missed a routine immunization.
The Importance of Routine Immunizations
Immunizations help prevent disease outbreaks. From birth to 18 years old, your child will receive a series of immunizations that are recommended and required to enter school and stay healthy. These immunizations are recommended by both the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as well as the American Academy of Pediatrics. Part of our job as your child’s pediatrician is to make sure that your child stays up to date on these important immunizations as they can help prevent serious and life-threatening infections and diseases.
What Happens if My Child Has Missed A Shot?
If your child is behind on one or some of his routine immunizations, it’s okay! New Beginnings Pediatrics is here to help. The easiest way to determine if your child has missed a vaccination is to call our office at (540) 739-3623 and speak to one of our nurses. We can identify which immunization is needed and schedule an appointment. Depending on your child’s age, the appointment may only require your child to see a nurse for the immunization and not a complete well-child visit. If your child is missing more than one immunizations, we can arrange several appointments to get him or her caught up just in time for the next school year.
